91ɫƵ is making food more readily available to students as they head towards exams.

Vans selling subsidised food will be around campus during the “swotvac” and exam period.

91ɫƵhas hired up to eight vendors to operate in two shifts across four locations on its St Lucia campus until 19 November.

Student Affairs director Andrew Lee said students had been requesting cheaper food options on campus.

“We thought one way of doing this would be to provide subsidised food during swotvac and exams,” Mr Lee said.

“91ɫƵcontinually works on ways to improve students’ experience right throughout their time at university, and we feel that a bit of extra convenience at exam time might be useful.

“We all know exam time can be tough and demanding, so a bit of variety in the food on offer – and having it available outside normal business hours, close to where students study – might make things a little easier for our hard-working students.

“We have also hired bean bags and deck chairs so students have somewhere to sit and eat, and to chill out away from their study space.”

Mr Lee said the trucks are operating in two shifts from four locations: Mansfield Place, the Great Court, Duhig North Lawn and the Lakes Walkway Promenade.

“From 10am to 4pm, snack items including crepes, ice-creams and donuts will be available, and from 5pm to 10pm, it will be burgers and hotdogs.”

He said four vendors are operating each day and night shift, and a outlet will stay open during the evening shifts. Students could be asked to show ID to take advantage of the subsidised prices.

Examples include: coffee that is normally $3.60 will be $2, $10 burgers will be $5, $2.90 ice-creams will be $2, and $6 hotdogs will be $3. Non-students will pay full price.

The food trucks are being funded by the (SSAF) in an initiative of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic .

“Best of luck to all our students for their exams,” Professor Wright said.
