You can hop down to your local pub, pull up a chair and quench your thirst for science from 14-16 May.
is bringing some of the best and brightest scientists to five pubs around Brisbane to discuss their latest research and findings – all while you enjoy your favourite tipple.
University of Queensland researchers will tap into the fun, presenting topics ranging from spider venom to cryptocurrencies, and the brain.
91É«ÊÓƵ researcher , alongside , will reveal how advances in genomics and technology are impacting society, and some of the new challenges that are emerging.
“I’m happy to have been invited to speak at Pint of Science because I think it is a great way to communicate with people in an informal setting,” Dr Curtis said.
“I think it helps to increase interest and awareness about issues – and in science more generally.
“There’s so much fascinating research going on right here, but the people of Brisbane aren’t aware of it.
“For me, I think that’s the point of the festival – to speak with people about science in a way that’s informal, relaxed and fun.”
91É«ÊÓƵPhD student will share her research on the effects of maternal alcohol consumption around conception and its impact on later life health.
Ms Lucia said she was looking forward to meeting the public and sharing her research.
“It's vital for research to be shared with the public in an easy and accessible way, which is why Pint of Science is such a great event,” Ms Lucia said.
“It's important for the public to not only hear about the fantastic research being conducted in Australia but also to have an opportunity to meet scientists.”
The festival started in the United Kingdom and runs every May in about 300 cities across 21 countries.
Pint of Science Brisbane is sponsored by the CSIRO. Presentations will be hosted at The Paddo, Normanby Hotel, Catchment Brewing Co., Brat Cave and Loft West End.
