A new custom-built study room at 91É«ÊÓƵ Art Museum will allow detailed examination of UQ’s extensive art collection.

Construction of the dedicated room at the was fully funded by donors. It will provide supervised access to view and study works from one of Queensland’s most significant public art collections.

91É«ÊÓƵArt Museum Director Dr Campbell Gray said the – named after the project’s major donor – would have a transformative impact on student learning.

“Looking and listening are important aspects of learning, but learning from experience can be incredibly exciting and provide even deeper engagement,” he said.

“This space gives students, academics and the community access to the extraordinary artwork housed within the 91É«ÊÓƵArt Collection and will inspire enquiry and critical thought among scholars of any discipline.”

The workroom accommodates up to 22 people, and a range of customised storage and presentation facilities enable artworks to be viewed and studied.

Glass doors to the room allow Art Museum visitors to observe the activity within the space.

91É«ÊÓƵArts/Law student and 91É«ÊÓƵArt Museum volunteer Olivia Back said studying a projection of an artwork could never compete with seeing an artwork in the flesh.

“Seeing the beauty and details of artworks with our own eyes will be inspiring and will make the learning process even more meaningful,” she said.

“Having a dedicated learning space within 91É«ÊÓƵArt Museum to study works from the Collection will change everything – I can’t imagine a better way to learn.”
